Getting a chance to share your thoughts and experiences with the world is truly a privilege. Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity to present at the Rotary Means Business event on October 1, 2024, and I focused on a topic that has been close to my heart—understanding the difference between what we achieve (our resume) and the legacy we leave behind (our eulogy).
I believe that building a resume and shaping one’s eulogy are inherently intertwined. The process of focusing on achieving one’s career goals and working for the development of the community is not exclusive, but rather goes hand in hand. At the end of the day, it’s not the achievements or accolades that people remember most—it’s how we treated them and the kind of person we were. Our legacy is defined by the impact we have on others, the kindness we show, and the values we live by. It’s these qualities, not just our professional accomplishments, that leave a lasting impression.
During my talk, I also delved into the concept of karmic management—a philosophy I abide and live by. This ideology flips the traditional business mentality of working to solely make profits. I am in no way suggesting that business owners should not focus on advancing their business and making money, however, when it is done with the intention of helping others along the way, it adds so much more value. Karmic management states that helping others become successful, is the real key to success in life as well as in business. It aligns personal and professional growth with the well-being of others, ensuring that success is built on a foundation of genuine human connections and positive impact.
Another concept I explored during my talk was servant leadership. At its core, servant leadership is about using your skills, expertise, and knowledge to serve others and make a meaningful contribution to society. It’s about leading with purpose, ensuring that your actions benefit the greater good, and fostering an environment where the success of the community is just as important as individual achievements.
The evening was fantastic. I got to meet and network with some amazing people and exchange ideas. Plus, I did a giveaway of my book, “Terminal 4: An Entrepreneur’s Journey from Bicycle to Business Class,“ which was such a fun way to connect even more with everyone.
It was a truly enriching experience, and I walked away feeling inspired by the conversations and the insights shared throughout the night.
